Master the Art of Jewelry Organization and Storage
Organizing and safely storing your jewelry not only prevents damage but also saves you money in the long run. If you constantly find yourself losing earrings or spending precious time untangling necklaces, it’s time to upgrade your jewelry organization game.
Eva Nanteza, an experienced jewelry dealer, shares her insights on the best ways to store and organize your jewelry collection.
Sort Your Jewelry into Categories
Start by sorting your jewelry into different categories: necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. Next, further categorize them by size or type, such as grouping hoop earrings and studs together. Once sorted, separate the items in perfect condition, those you’ve outgrown, and the damaged pieces. Donate unwanted items, discard damaged ones, and clean and store the remaining pieces.
Jewelry Trays for Drawer Organization
Many people store their jewelry in drawers, and Nanteza suggests using velvet-lined compartment trays to keep your jewelry drawer organized. Available in various sizes and styles, these trays can be found in leading supermarkets or jewelry shops.
“Jewelry trays fit nicely in most drawers and can be stacked to accommodate more pieces while still allowing you to easily see it all,” she says. To further secure your jewelry, consider adding a lock to your drawer.
Soft Pouches for Earring Storage
Soft pouches with multiple compartments are ideal for storing earrings to prevent scratches. Nanteza recommends using pouches specifically designed for this purpose.
Watch Boxes or Cases for Multiple Watches
For those with more than three watches, Nanteza suggests purchasing a watch box with compartments designed to accommodate several watches. Look for a box that is well-padded and lined with a soft material, like felt, to prevent scratches. Alternatively, if you have ample drawer space, consider keeping each watch in its original box.
Watch Rolls for Travel
Watch rolls, often made from high-quality leather, protect your watches from scratches and dents while traveling. These rolls typically hold up to three watches and feature a detachable cylinder fastened with snap buttons and external magnet buttons to ensure secure closure.
Countertop Storage with Stackers
Stackers, simple leather cases with velvet-lined compartments, provide an excellent countertop storage solution for those lacking drawer space. Nanteza explains, “Stacker jewelry boxes are a great option if you do not have drawer space for storage. There are so many options to choose from such as color, size, and material. They are an easy and safe organized way to display your jewelry.”
However, Nanteza warns that countertop storage can be tempting for thieves and children. To mitigate risk, arrange your pieces based on frequency of use and value, placing frequently worn items closer and more valuable ones in a safer location.
Hanging Organizers for Creative Storage
For those with limited drawer space, Nanteza suggests using hanging organizers to display jewelry as part of your home décor. Use available vertical space to maximize storage and hang colorful, statement necklaces on decorative hooks that match your existing décor. You can create your own hanging trees or stacks and place them in convenient locations throughout your home.
Remember, the key to successfully organizing and storing your jewelry is understanding your unique needs and preferences, and selecting the solutions that work best for you.
